(AP) ? Floodwaters from Isaac receded, power came on and businesses opened Friday ahead of the holiday weekend, the beginning of what is certain to be a slow recovery for Louisiana.

Newly-nominated Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney visited flood-ravaged communities, and President Barack Obama said he would arrive Monday, appearances this part of the country is all too familiar with after Katrina and the Gulf oil spill.

Meanwhile, the leftovers from the storm pushed into the drought-stricken Midwest, knocking out power to thousands of people in Arkansas. At least seven people were killed in the storm in Mississippi and Louisiana.

In Lafitte, a fishing village south of New Orleans, Romney saw soaked homes, roads covered with brown water and debris-littered neighborhoods. The GOP-friendly community is outside of the federal levee system that spared New Orleans and it lay on an exposed stretch of land near the Gulf.

Romney met along a highway with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, and they talked about challenges facing the stricken area, which relies on fishing for its livelihood. He also spoke to town officials and emergency workers.

"I'm here to learn and obviously to draw some attention to what's going on here," Romney told the governor. "So that people around the country know that people down here need help."

At one point, Romney and Jindal talked to a man in waders, a straw hat and holding a neon yellow "Mitt Is Our Man" handwritten sign. The man complained about the area's lack of protection from flooding.

The town is located just outside a region that is protected by levees and other flood protection measures built after Hurricane Katrina battered New Orleans in 2005. The Army Corps of Engineers spent about $13 billion on the system.

Richard Riley rode out the storm in his home. Even though the water was receding Friday, he decided it was time the leave. He walked about a mile and found rescuers, who took him to family members.

Riley said he favored building new flood protection for the area, especially after Isaac brought in a surprising amount of water. Riley, a Republican, welcomed visits from Romney and the president. He said he wanted Obama to help make that happen.

"He needs to see the devastation and allocate the money that's needed to build new levees or do whatever is needed to protect us," Riley said.

Crown Point, Lafitte and other nearby settlements that jut inland from the Gulf are accustomed to high water driven by hurricanes. But Isaac, a relatively weak storm by the standards of Betsy and Katrina, pushed in much more water than expected after it stalled after landfall.

To the east, officials pumped and released water from a reservoir, easing the pressure behind an Isaac-stressed dam in Mississippi on the Louisiana border. The threat for the earthen dam on Lake Tangipahoa prompted evacuations in small towns and rural areas.

In New Orleans, at the Magnolia Discount Gas Station in the Carrollton neighborhood, employee Gadeaon Fentessa said up to 50 drivers an hour were pulling in, hopeful they could pump. He had the gas, but no power. Stations that did have power to pump had long lines.

There were other signs of life getting back to some sense of normalcy. The Mississippi River opened to limited traffic, the French Quarter rekindled its lively spirit and restaurants reopened.

Isaac dumped as much as 16 inches of rain in some areas, and about 500 people had to be rescued by boat or high-water vehicles. More than 5,000 people were still staying in shelters.

The remainder of the storm was still a powerful system packing rain and the threat of flash flooding as it headed across Arkansas into Missouri and then up the Ohio River valley over the weekend, the National Weather Service said.

Labor Day plans were already taking a hit.

Oleg Shneper, manager of the Extended Stay America hotel in the Cincinnati suburb of Blue Ash, said occupancy was down about 10 percent already.

His hotel usually gets business travelers and a lot of people visiting nearby Kings Island amusement park in Mason.

"People have called to say they can't get here because the rain is keeping them from getting out of airports," he said. "We're also definitely not seeing as much family traffic."

Farther south, the storm victims included a man and a woman discovered late Thursday in a home in the hard-hit town of Braithwaite, south of New Orleans; a man killed in a restaurant fire; two men killed in separate car accidents, a woman whose car was hit by a tree and a man who fell from a tree.

In Louisiana alone, the storm cut power to 901,000 homes and businesses, or about 47 percent of the state, but that was down to 617,000.

More than 15,000 utility workers began restoring power to customers in Louisiana and Mississippi, but officials said it would be a couple of days before power was fully restored.

Crews intentionally breached a levee that was strained by Isaac's floodwaters in southeast Louisiana's Plaquemines Parish, which is outside the federal levee system. Parish President Billy Nungesser said the work was slow-going. Workers were only able to reach one spot, he said, and 10 to 12 cuts were planned. The levee is cut as the tide goes out, he said, then patched while the tide comes back.

In Mississippi's Bay St. Louis, Allen Barrilleaux, spent Friday morning draining water from the engine of his flooded truck not far from a river.

He was going to ride out the storm with his wife, a friend, and 5-week-old son in their house, which is on stilts, but called for help Wednesday when the water came closer and large pine trees from a nearby mill swirled in the water. They were evacuated by boat.

Watching for ant beds as he walked around his green Chevy, Barrilleaux said hurricanes are part of life here, but disasters can hit anywhere.

"Life's cruel," Barrilleaux said, gripping a wrench with a greasy hand. Then he smiled.

"We're like that big old ant hill and a guy with a lawnmower just keeps mowing us down."

The Decreasing Workstation Upgrade Cycle | The Business Edition

Since computer workstations became widespread in offices, regular upgrades were considered to be a necessary expense. As new software was release, businesses had to upgrade their workstations to keep up with the system requirements. Recent technology, however, is changing this upgrade process, and many businesses are holding off on their upgrades. Here are some of the factors that are causing this change.

1. Better technology

Computers hardware is still consistently improving. The advances in processor speed has slowed, but computers are being released with more processors than the previous generation, and the price of RAM continues to drop. The system requirements of software, however, are not keeping pace. For office software, computers that would otherwise have been considered obsolete are able to run modern software fine, and businesses are choosing to use their computers as long as they perform well.

2. Skipped OS updates

Platforms are also being updated less frequently. Businesses are finding little utility in upgrading their operating systems, which allows them to stick with older hardware. Many businesses find that Windows XP is sufficient for their needs, and some have not upgraded since switching to Windows XP years ago. Windows Vista is largely considered a flop, but much of its trouble came because businesses had already developed their workflows to their satisfaction. Windows 7 has become popular, but many experts are questioning if users will upgrade to the next iteration of Windows.

3. Telecommuting

A growing number of businesses are allowing staff to work from home for at least part of the week. Because of this, companies need to ensure that their software is compatible with the computers staff members use at home. Some companies are choosing to use older versions of office software instead of upgrading. Even in cases where new software would be beneficial, companies are valuing the reduced hardware costs and telecommuting ability more highly than updated software.

4. The cloud paradigm

The cloud paradigm is sweeping through the business world. Much like the era of thin clients, cloud networks do not have high system requirements for workstations. Each workstation needs to have an appropriate networking card, a web browser and, in some cases, appropriate support software. The CPU-intensive tasks, however, are often handled by the server, and each workstation merely needs to be able to display what the server computers. This paradigm also has the advantage of centralized storage and the ability to share RAM between computers. Companies can simply upgrade their servers at their demands increase, and further developments may actually reduce workstations? system requirements.

Computer upgrades in early years were driven by the inability of hardware to operate as efficiently as possible. Many experts, however, now believe that computers of today are capable of handling the vast majority of what businesses require, and most expect companies to increase the time between workstation upgrades.

UN, Iran leaders duel over nuclear issue

UN chief Ban Ki-moon and Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, sparred in an unusually frank verbal duel on Wednesday over Tehran's disputed nuclear programme, betraying high tensions on the issue.

Ban told Khamenei and, separately, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to take "concrete" steps to fix the worsening international showdown over their atomic activities, according to his spokesman.

But Khamenei, according to his official website, shot back by saying the "defective" United Nations was in thrall to the United States, and accusing the UN nuclear watchdog of "sabotaging" Iran's nuclear progress.

The tough-talking exchange came on the eve of a two-day summit in Tehran of the Non-Aligned Movement, at which Ban is a star guest.

Iran's leaders had portrayed the event as proof that they were not as isolated as the West was saying.

Ban's comments upheld his promise to raise the issues of the nuclear standoff, human rights and the conflict in Syria with Iran's leaders during his Tehran visit.

The UN leader called for "concrete steps to address the concerns of the International Atomic Energy Agency and to prove to the world that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes," his spokesman, Martin Nesirky, told reporters.

Ban "regretted" that little progress was made in several rounds of negotiations this year between Iran and the P5+1 comprising the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany.

But he also condemned warnings from the United States and Israel of possible military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Khamenei's official website noted the "concern" expressed by Ban over the nuclear issue and the UN chief's call for Iran "to show more cooperation with the IAEA and P5+1 group."

The supreme leader was also quoted shooting back that the United Nations should make a greater effort to rid the Middle East of nuclear arms, stressing Israel's status as the region's sole if undeclared nuclear weapons state.

He also said that "unfortunately, the structure of the UN is a defective one with the biggest bully of all the nations, which has used nuclear weapons (the United States), dominating the Security Council."

"The United States knows we are not seeking nuclear weapons and it is only looking for excuses," he said.

Khamenei also said the IAEA "is obliged to give us technical and scientific aid, but not only has it not done so, it has always sabotaged" Iran's drive to develop nuclear energy.

He criticised the UN nuclear watchdog for not condemning the United States for reportedly admitting to using computer viruses to slow Iran's uranium enrichment activities.

Khamenei reiterated that his country viewed nuclear weapons as against its Islamic beliefs.

The supreme leader was due on Thursday to address the NAM summit, which was likely to endorse the right of peaceful nuclear energy for all, subject to IAEA supervision.

Ban's attendance at the summit had been criticised by the United States and Israel, which have taken the lead in pressuring arch-foe Iran on its nuclear programme.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday renewed his charge against the summit, calling it "a disgrace and a stain on humanity" given Iran's frequent diatribes against his country, denying its right to exist.

But Ban in his meeting with Khamenei took Iran's leaders to task over their recent descriptions of Israel as a "cancerous tumour" that should be excised and Ahmadinejad's Holocaust-denying remarks.

He told Khamenei he "strongly objected" to those words, and said "such offensive and inflammatory statements were unacceptable and should be condemned by all," his spokesman said.

The two also discussed the role Iran could play in quelling the violence raging in Syria, whose regime it staunchly supports.

Khamenei repeated his stance that "the bitter reality is that some countries are using the opposition groups in Syria as proxies to wage war against the Syrian government."

My 15 Killer SEO Copywriting Advice

?

Hey guys!

You all know that my blog is all about blogging and monetizing the blog but now after writing much about blogging, I feel like writing some of my next posts on SEO and SEO copywriting advice.

I don?t need to say that SEO is an inseparable part of blogging and thus now I will try to share some of the SEO tips and techniques which I am using.

I know that most of my readers are established bloggers and are well aware of the SEO tips but still I want to share my experiences and tips.

I am enlisting here 15 of my best tips on how to write killer SEO friendly content for your blog. I decided to write on this topic because SEO copywriting plays a very important role in bringing high traffic to your website.

First let me tell you what SEO copywriting is! It is an art of writing a good article based on search engine optimization.

However there are many professional SEO Copywriters but trust me, they charge very high.

I don?t know about you all but I can?t afford them. So I do it for myself and I believe that after reading my tips mentioned below you will also be able to write your own SEO copywrite content and bring huge traffic in your website.

1. Give Your Best At Writing -

I have mentioned this tip earlier also in many of my blog posts like here and the reason behind is that content is king for any blog. Good and original content is one of the major requisites to run a blog successfully.

So this has to be on top of the list obviously. The entire search engines including Google love the good and original content. Not just the search engines but the readers also love to read good content and you know that when users like some content get link to it and Google love such inbound links.

Having good content and high quality inbound links gives your blog high page rank and that is what we all are working for. Right?

Now, if you ask me how to write a good content, the only tip which I follow is to use most appropriate and relevant content in my blog post.

You know what? People usually try focusing on a single keyword and use it everywhere in the blog post. I know you by using the keywords many times, you just want to attract Google Crawlers but sadly Google sees it differently.

Google actually finds it a shallow article with keyword stuffing and will bring it down the search pages. On the other hand if you use different but relevant words in your post, Google finds it authoritative, informative and useful for readers.

So what I do is using the synonyms of my target keywords in my post.

2. Use Catchy Headlines -

It is the headline which draws the attention of the reader. Make sure that the headlines are short and snappy. Using keyword in headlines is again a good idea to bring Google to your blog page. I spend several hours to choose a powerful headline for my blog posts.

3. H1 Is Important In SEO Copywriting-

H1 tag in title is very important for your content and plays a major role in attracting the Google Crawlers. Make sure that the words used in your title are very well used in your content as well.

Do you know what the role of H1 tag is? It actually provides a high degree emphasis on your selected keyword. Some of the bloggers usually overlook the importance of H1 tag but let me tell you that using H1 tag is one of the golden SEO copywriting advice.

Not only H1, but H2 and H3 tags are also important to get good place in Google search results. Trust me Google respects the hierarchical article the most.

4. Maintain Keyword Density -

Keywords are what we write upon and so the targeted keyword should be placed well in your content. Best placements include, beginning of the post, in main paragraphs and in the end.

Do not make a mistake of stuffing the keywords unnecessarily in the article. Google is smart enough to trash it from its search results.

5. Use Ctrl+U, Ctrl+I And Ctrl+B -

It is very important to emphasize the keywords in the article. It not just helps the Google to track your post but also help the readers to understand what your article is about.

Using underline, bold and italic are the best ways to emphasize the keywords.

You know what all the words that you underline bold and italic are considered as keywords by Google crawlers, so you better use these shortcuts carefully.

6. Use Meta tags -

Google love to see same Title and Description, however repeated keywords may also annoy Google. I want to say that you should use the title?s keywords in both Description and Title but don?t repeat the keywords unnecessarily or else Google will take it as spam.

Don?t Miss: Effect Of Google Panda Update On Online Marketing

7. Bullets and Numbers -

When I search for something on Google, I always prefer reading the posts having bullets or numbers. I don?t know why but such posts seem to be easily understandable.

Same is the thing with Google; I guess Google is very much like me as it also loves the posts having bullets or numbers included.

8. File Names -

Whichever files you are using in your post must contain the keywords. Understood?

What I mean is that when you add some file in your post, like an image file, make sure that the file name has the keywords in it. You know how it will help you

When you use keywords in the file name, all the URLs of your posts will contain a keyword which will definitely give you SEO benefit.

Correct me if I am wrong.

9. Don?t Forget To Crosslink Your Articles -

It is a very good idea to increase the page views considerably but remember not to interlink irrelevant content. You should cross link the pages only when the anchor text is purely relevant to the page you are linking it to.

Along with increasing the page views it also help Google to know what your other pages are about.

I recommend SEO Smart Links ? Premium Edition for that. It improve your search engine rankings by automatically cross-linking your posts either in automatic or in user-set mode. It also helps you manage your affiliate links and much more. Click to read the full list of features and buy here.

10. Try Getting Useful External Links -

Interlinks are useful but external links also equally important so try getting some useful and high quality external links as well.

It?s easy!
Just add an outbound link to some authoritative high page rank blog.

But again fact is that Relevancy matters a lot. Never try to fool Google by linking irrelevant blog pages. It is proven fact that Google ranks the pages with outbound links higher than those having no outbound links.

One very important point ? Don?t ever link a penalized page with your website or else your page will also be penalized.

11. Do You Know About Content-To-Code Ratio -

Content-to-code is ratio between the amount of code and amount of text. It is also termed as signal-to-noise ratio. Not much people know about it but it is important.

Your web pages and posts must have a high content-to-code ratio that means text in your post must be more than the HTML code.

You can check it from the View Page Source. Google love more content and less HTML.

12. Avoid Using Flash -

I never understand why people use Flash in their websites when it is the biggest enemy of SEO. You know what! I never like to visit sites having Flash; it is a real pain for waiting the Flash slide to open. It irritates users and drive them to next search result immediately.

I don?t know whether you know or not but the data embedded in a Flash file is never indexed and thus is not visible in the search engine pages.

13. Avoid frames

Frames Suck!!!!

Agree?

This is what I feel. Actually the frames breaks the navigation of your website and let me tell you that if you are using frames in your website, Google will index only page having frame, I mean the home page.

14. Plurals And Synonyms Work -

This is my personal tip as I do this. Using plurals and synonyms of keywords make your article relevant search queries done with phrases relevant to your keyword. This way your post will qualify for more search terms and will obviously bring more visits and visitors.

Using plurals brings you the visitors searching both singular and plurals but singular words will not bring people searching for plurals.

Got my point?

15. Embed Your Links -

Don?t leave your links secluded, embed it with correct text. Google ignores the isolated links. But again relevancy is important.

Good luck!

Ant-inspired Internet - the 'Anternet' - may be coming soon

1 day

Ants get stuff done without anyone in control. Understanding how they do what they do could help us design more robust and efficient networks, according to a biologist who studies ant colony behavior.

A recent study shows that harvester ants, for example, regulate how many ants are out searching for food in a way that resembles how Internet protocols regulate the amount of data being transferred according to the amount of available bandwidth.?

The protocol, called the Transmission Control Protocol, sends out packets of data and waits until it receives an acknowledgement that the packet was received before sending out more packets.

An acknowledgement that comes back slower than the data was sent is a sign of traffic congestion, so the data source scales back its rate of data transmission. If the acknowledgment comes back faster than it was sent, the reverse is true and the data transfer speed is increased.

Harvester ants behave the same way when searching for food. The rate at which foragers leave the nest to look for seeds corresponds to the rate at which ants return and thus to food availability, according to Deborah Gordon, a biologist at Stanford University in California.

Individual ants try not to return to the nest empty-handed. When seeds are plentiful, the foragers return quickly, meaning more ants will leave the nest to find food. If they return slowly, the system is throttled down.

Gordon?s colleague, Balaji Prabhakar, a professor of computer science at Stanford, made the connection between the ant behavior and the way the Internet protocol works. They published their findings on the so-called "anternet"?in the Aug. 23 issue of PLoS Computational Biology.?

In this case, humans designed an algorithm to solve a traffic congestion problem on the Internet before they found the solution in an ant colony.

If we study the ants first, ?we are likely to learn about some new solutions to large-scale network problems,? Gordon told me Monday.?

This may be particularly true, she said, as the Internet becomes larger and unwieldy and expensive to operate as more and more data is moved to the cloud.

?We already know that ants are good at a particular kind of problem that we are trying to solve,? she said. ?That is, how to operate systems with lots of information and moving around complicated pathways and no central control.?

One solution to operating more complex networks may be the introduction of randomness into the system, as ant colonies do.

?It will still work well enough and it?s a lot cheaper and more effective than trying to [specify everything centrally], so you can actually use less information to get the same result,? she explained in a follow up email.

Doing that means accepting that a certain level of randomness is helpful to the functioning of a system, not damaging.

?That?s what the ants can teach us. They have ways of [organizing networks] that use more randomness and more redundancy,? Gordon said.

Making a Home Safer for an Elderly Family Member Part I

Making sure an elderly family member's living situation is as safe as possible offers significant peace of mind for everyone involved in their daily care. Often, especially if one has lived in a place for many years, it is easy to lose sight of obvious hazards, or overlook them entirely. Making a home safe for a senior family member requires a careful eye and great vigilance considering that things we take for granted every day can become dangerous as we age.

The most common issues faced by the elderly are those affecting mobility. There are numerous causes of mobility impairment, but one or more will eventually be an issue for many seniors as they age. Identifying potential hazards and correcting as many of these as possible is critical in order to maintain a safe household where falls and accidents are minimized or eliminated.

Stairs present a serious safety issue. Wherever possible, it pays to eliminate the need to use them. In a multiple storey house, moving a bedroom to the first floor can make an upper floor unneeded except for storage or housing guests. Other options include the addition of banisters on both sides of the stairs, specialized rubber padding for improved traction, and the installation of an automatic chair when necessary.

Similarly, make trips down the basement steps unnecessary when possible. Keep some commonly used tools --a hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, repair materials like fasteners -- in a kitchen drawer. Bring up stored foodstuffs to a pantry. If the laundry area is in the basement, make laundry part of your senior care arrangements, or consider moving the equipment upstairs. Additionally, in cases of emergency -- a tripped circuit breaker, for instance -- make sure a good flashlight is always within reach and that the stairway is clear, has good traction, and strong handrails.

If some stairs are unavoidable -- sunken living rooms, for instance -- make sure there are good strong railings, and that the steps themselves are free of carpeting and are covered with a non-slip material. Ramps can sometimes be a solution, but only if the pitch is low and they are well equipped with railings on either side.

Exterior stairs need to be well lit, and always kept clear of snow and ice and well-sanded in cold climates that receive frost, snow, sleet, freezing rain or hail. Exterior pathways can also pose a hazard during an inclement weather, so consider having mail delivered to the door instead of to a box at the street.

While evaluating any potential risks in the home, walk from room to room and watch for tripping hazards such as torn carpeting, a lose piece of floor trim, or the upturned edge of a rug. Throw rugs that are not securely taped to the floor should be secured immediately or discarded. Inspect old wall-to-wall carpeting for tears or stretched/uplifted fibers that one can catch a toe or heel on.

When we're young and agile, furniture that juts out into frequently traveled pathways is easy to maneuver around, but this isn't the case when mobility is restricted. Coffee-tables, end tables, floor lamps, hat racks, badly situated chairs and other types of seemingly harmless furniture can be a hazard if not placed at a safe distance from high-traffic areas in the home.

A fresh pair of eyes is always helpful when analyzing a home for safety of a senior family member. Fortunately, most professional in home care providers have been trained to spot hazards and help you address them. You can use such services as a significant resource as you strive to make an elderly person's home as safe as it can possibly be.
